On January 27, 2026, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry drafted the Indian Boiler Regulations, 2026, which will seek to replace the Indian Boiler Regulations, 1950. A 30-day public comment period was also conducted. While the draft primarily specifies technical requirements for manufacturing various types of boilers, it also mandates that owners of boilers perform inspections and comply with safety requirements during such inspections. The primary focus of this amendment is the strengthening of technical manufacturing requirements, whereas regulation on boiler operation itself did not see much changes.
