India publishes quality control order for acrylonitrile, styrene, etc.

On November 5, 2020, India’s Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers published the quality control orders related to acrylonitrile, styrene, etc. These orders will come into force on the expiry of one hundred and eighty days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. These orders will not apply to products intended for export. Any violation of the provisions of these orders shall be punishable under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The Indian Standards that must be complied with shall be the latest version in force at all times.

Goods or articles specified in the table shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard as specified in the said table and shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per the Scheme I of Schedule II of the “Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018”

In addition, the amendment of quality control order for phthalic anhydride has been promulgated to revise the effective date to January 17, 2021. Initially, the notification dated April 23, 2020 stipulated that the order “shall enter into force after 180 days from the date of publication” (see URL below).
