India Standardizes Application and Manner of Labelling for Products under the Standards and Labelling Program

On December 26, 2025, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India published the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labeling and Compliance) Regulations, 2026 which came into force on January 1, 2026. These regulations complement the existing Standards and Labelling scheme by standardizing application procedures, label specifications, and dimensional requirements for all mandatory products. Previously, similar requirements were governed by separate regulations for each mandatory product, leading to variations in application procedures and fees depending on the item. This new regulation aims to streamline practical requirements, and as a result, all previous product-specific rules have been repealed.
