India Launches Electric Mobility Index to Track EV Transition

On August 4, 2025, the Indian policy think tank NITI Aayog released a report titled “India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2024,” which presents a comprehensive evaluation of EV adoption and infrastructure across all 28 states and union territories, and introduces the IEMI framework as a standardized assessment tool. The index measures the diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs), robustness of charging infrastructure and the effectiveness of ongoing policy initiatives during financial year 2024 (April 2024 ~ March 2025). Emphasizing the critical role of state governments in advancing EV deployment, NITI Aayog plans to monitor state-level progress and publish updated findings annually.
