On October 3, 2020, India’s Ministry of Power published “Energy Conservation (Minimum Qualification for Energy Auditors, Energy Auditors (Building) and Energy Managers) Rules, 2020” with the repeal of the 2006 rules. The main provisions are as follows.
- In order to obtain certification as an energy auditor or energy manager, candidates must pass the national exam and have a certificate issued under these regulations.
The minimum eligibility requirements for the national qualifications are as follows.
Energy Auditors:
- a Graduate Engineer or Graduate Architect with three years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, energy management, energy efficiency and energy conservation, building design or building energy management; or
- a Post-Graduate in Engineering or Architecture with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, energy management, energy efficiency and energy conservation, building design or building energy management; or
- a Graduate Engineer or Graduate Architect with a post-graduate degree in Management or its equivalent with two years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, energy efficiency and energy conservation, building design or building energy management.
Energy Managers:
- fulfils eligibility criteria specified above for energy auditors or
- is a Diploma Engineer with six years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, energy management, energy efficiency and energy conservation, building design or building energy management; or
- is a Post-Graduate in Physics or Electronics or Chemistry (with Physics and Mathematics at graduation level) with three years of work experience involving use of energy in operation, maintenance, planning, energy management, energy efficiency and energy conservation, building design or building energy management.
