India Approves Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Plan for 10 million Households

On February 29, 2024, the cabinet of India has officially approved the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bujli Yojana (Hindi for "Prime Minister's Rooftop Solar Power Scheme for Free Electricity"), a rooftop solar power installation plan worth approximately 750 billion rupees, as reported by the Press Information Bureau. Solar power has been widely discussed as a clean energy source in the country, and the announcement this plan is part of an effort to expand solar power generation capacity in line with the 2070 net zero target.
