Queensland Government Revamps Waste Management Regulations

On August 25, 2023, the State of Queensland promulgated the “Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2023” (the "Regulation"). Parts 5 and 6 of the Regulation came into force on September 1, 2023, and the other provisions came into force upon promulgation. This Regulation replaces the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2011, which was scheduled to expire. The purpose of the Regulation is to implement the “Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011” ("Waste Act") by establishing specific regulatory requirements to support the avoidance, reuse, recycling, and safe disposal of waste, and thereby support waste management.
