Japan Reviews PFHxS-Related Substances Under Chemical Substances Control Law

On April 18, 2025, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and Ministry of the Environment (MOE) held a joint meeting, and its minutes are now publicly available. The review focused on the designation and schedule for PFHxS-related substances as Type I Specified Chemical Substances under Japan’s Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL). Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) and its salts were already designated as Type I Specified Chemical Substances on February 1, 2024, but this meeting examined the inclusion of additional related substances.
