Japan Publishes Guidelines and Measures for the Proper Disposal of Lithium Batteries in Municipalities

On April 15, 2025, Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Regeneration and Resource Circulation Bureau, issued a notification to prefectural waste management authorities regarding the Guidelines and Measures for the Proper Disposal of Lithium Batteries in Municipalities. This notification was prompted by a rise in fire-related accidents caused by lithium batteries and products containing them at waste treatment facilities and in collection and transportation vehicles.
