On January 17, 2025, the Cabinet of Japan approved the Cabinet Order Partially Amending the Order for Enforcement of the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures. The main amendments include establishing provisions necessary for managing international cooperative emission reductions (JCM credits), and addressing cases in which captured carbon dioxide (CO2) is used to produce recycled carbon fuels under the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting, Reporting, and Disclosure System (SHK System; “SHK” being an acronym derived from the Japanese words for Accounting, Reporting, and Disclosure).
