Japan to designate NPE as Class II Specified Chemical Substance regulated under Chemical Substances Control Law

On Sept. 24, 2024, the Japanese Cabinet adopted a cabinet order amending the enforcement order for the Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL) to designate poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenyl ether (NPE) as a Class II Specified Chemical Substance regulated under the CSCL, and to require the creation of technical guidelines on environmental pollution control for products containing NPE, specifically NPE-containing water-based detergents.
