China’s Shanghai to promote hydrogen energy industry, fuel cell vehicles

On Aug. 26, 2022, the Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and other eight departments of the government of Shanghai, China, announced a set of policies for sophisticated development of the hydrogen energy industry in the New Port Zone of Shanghai’s pilot free-trade zone.

The policies lists five directions for the development of the hydrogen energy industry in the New Port Zone and 18 measures to support them. Among them, emphasis is placed on supporting the introduction and promotion of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) for commuter buses, engineering vehicles, trucks used in the port, etc. The application of hydrogen generation technology using wind energy and solar energy are promoted as well.
