China released draft revision of Provisions on Safety Oversight of Dangerous Goods Transportation by Ship

On May 11, China’s Ministry of Transport released on its website a draft revision of the Provisions on Safety Oversight of Dangerous Goods Transportation by Ship to solicit public comments, which will be accepted through June 11.

These provisions have been developed to oversee dangerous goods transportation by ship under the Maritime Traffic Safety Law, the Regulations on Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals and other laws and regulations. The Maritime Traffic Safety Law was amended in April 2021 and new requirements for dangerous goods transportation by sea have been added to the law. The amendment came into effect in September 2021. The above-mentioned provisions, which are based on this law, are being updated in line with this change.

The revision of the provisions would make relatively minor changes, including an increase in companies’ responsibility and a clear definition of dangerous goods.
