China releases draft standards including methodology for determination of 10 halogenated hydrocarbons in gaseous refrigerants

On December 21, 2020, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China released the following three drafts for comments of national environmental protection standard which stipulate the measurement method of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) in industrial products. The deadline for comments is January 17, 2021.

• Gaseous Refrigerants—Determination of 10 halogenated hydrocarbons—Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
• Liquid Refrigerants—Determination of CFC-11 and HCFC-123—Headspace/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
• Industrial cleaning agents—Determination of HCFC-141b, CFC-113, TCA and CTC—Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

The following is the application scope of the above 3 standards.

Gaseous Refrigerants—Determination of 10 halogenated hydrocarbons—Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

• It applies to the measurement of the volume fraction of HFC-23, HFC-32, HFC-125, HFC-143a, CFC-12, HCFC-22, HFC-134a, HFC-152a, HCFC-124, HCFC-142b in gaseous refrigerant. But it does not apply to the measurement of purity.

Liquid Refrigerants—Determination of CFC-11 and HCFC-123—Headspace/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

• It applies to the measurement of the mass fraction of CFC-11 and HCFC-123 in liquid refrigerants. But it does not apply to the measurement of purity.

Industrial cleaning agents—Determination of HCFC-141b, CFC-113, TCA and CTC—Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

• It applies to the measurement of the mass fraction of HCFC-141b, CFC-113, TCA, and CTC in industrial cleaning agents. But it does not apply to the measurement of purity.

The above three national environmental protection standards stipulate the principle of the measurement method, sampling method, measurement procedure, waste disposal, and safety precautions of ODS.
