China adds four phthalates to list of substances restricted under RoHS

On June 29, 2024, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation published the first update to the China RoHS-related national standard called the Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (GB/T 26572-2011). The update will come into effect Jan. 1, 2026.

This update adds dibutyl phthalate (DBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) to the list of restricted substances. Chapter 4 of the updated standard requires the concentrations of these substances not to exceed 0.1% by mass.
