Vietnam held seminar on policies and technical regulations on offshore wind development

On July 23, 2022, the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), in collaboration with the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) Fund, held a seminar on offshore wind expansion to hear opinions from different ministries (including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), experts, and representatives of regional natural resources and environment agencies. According to Truong Duc Tri, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, since the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), Vietnam has been attracting attention from various investors and some of the world’s leading energy companies regarding offshore wind research and development. To date, he said, many domestic and international project developers have submitted proposals to conduct potential wind energy measurements and offshore geological and topographical surveys, aiming for review and approval by national governing bodies.
