China to Implement Amended National Standard for Plastic Product Labeling from April 1, 2025

On September 29, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation of China announced the amended voluntary national standard "Labeling of Plastic Products" (GB/T 16288-2008), now updated to GB/T 16288-2024. This standard will be implemented from April 1, 2025. The revised version is based on ISO 11469:2016 but includes modifications to accommodate current Chinese regulations and industry conditions, resulting in several differences from ISO 11469:2016. Key revisions in GB/T 16288-2024 include changes to the labeling mark for non-recyclable plastic products, amendments to supplementary explanations, and updates to abbreviations for labeling plastic products containing recycled plastics.
