Taiwan adjusts the scope of refrigerators and washing machines to be collected

Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration has issued a public notice on the revision of appendix1 “the scopes for the articles and the enterprises responsibility” in “the scopes for the articles and the packaging and containers thereof and the enterprises responsible for recycling, clearance and disposal”. The revision version will come into effect from March.1 2022. In this revision, the scope of refrigerators and washing machines has been revised. In addition, businesses that manufacture or import products subject to the public notice are obliged to register, declare, and pay recycling fee as a responsible enterprise. Please refer to the table below for the adjustment of the 2 items revised this time.

Goods Definition.
Revision version Previous version
Electric refrigerator Freezers, refrigerators, freezers/fridges, and electric refrigerators with a capacity of 800 L or less and of compression or absorption type. However, this does not include freezers, refrigerators, freezers/fridges and electric refrigerators with rear door, open type, display window type, showcase, table type and those used for biomedical applications.

 

Refrigerators and ice-cans that use alternating current, have a capacity of 800 liters or less, are of the compression type, and are equipped with both refrigeration and freezing functions, or are of the absorption type.
Washing machine Products with a washing capacity of between 6kg and 25kg (dry clothes). Products with a washing capacity of between 6kg and 15kg (dry clothes).

Note: The provision on the definition of “refrigerator” in the draft revision stated that it “does not include freezers, refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and electric refrigerators used in automobiles, ships, aircraft, or for biomedical purposes,” but in this official public notice, the above “automobiles, ships, and aircraft” part has been deleted.
