*Taiwan MEPS for air cleaners announced in Taiwan

On June 11, 2021, Bureau of Energy, Ministry of economic affairs, Taiwan, officially announced the “Requirements on Minimum Energy Performance Standard, Energy Efficiency Rating Labeling and Inspection for Air Cleaners” which stipulates the minimum energy performance standard (MEPS) for air cleaners. This announcement will take effect on January 1, 2023. The outline is as follows.

Scope of application

The standard is applicable to air cleaners that meet the provisions of CNS16098 “Air cleaners for household and similar use − Methods for measuring the performance” and have been added to the list of required items for inspection by Bureau of Standard, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

However, if the following conditions are met, it is not applicable.

  • If the rated and measured Clean Air Supply Rate (CASR) (in cmm) is less than 0.26 or greater than 12.80.
  • When ozone, ultraviolet light or photocatalyst is the only principle for air cleaners.
  • Products with a USB port and an input voltage of DC 5V to the main unit, but without a power adapter attached; products that use only power supplied by the automobile and are supplied with a power supply for automobile cigar sockets; products powered only by three-phase voltage or simple dry cell batteries.
