Taiwan publishes draft amendment of Energy Administration Act

On July 30, 2024, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs published a draft amendment of the Energy Administration Act. The ministry is seeking comments on the draft for 60 days from its publication. The Energy Administration Act is a basic law that provides legal bases for energy-related policies of Taiwan, including minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and energy efficiency grading systems for products.

The draft adds new forms of energy to the law’s list of energy types, clarifies the scope of authority of the central competent authority, and substantially increases the fines for violations of the law.
