China Issues Noise Source Classification Catalogue to Standardize Pollution Controls 
On August 19, 2026, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) published the Guiding Catalogue for Noise Source Classification. While noise-related complaints in China remain consistently high, resolving noise pollution cases has proven challenging due to vague complaint descriptions and ambiguous divisions of responsibility. This necessitated the establishment of a unified national classification framework. Formulated under the Ecological and Environmental Code promulgated in March 2026, the catalogue categorizes noise sources across Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 tiers based on specific definitions.
