China Issues Revised Mandatory National Standard for Silicone Rubber Materials Used in Food Contact Applications

On September 2, 2025, China’s National Health Commission officially issued the revised version of the mandatory national standard titled “National Food Safety Standard: Silicone Rubber Materials and Articles for Food Contact” (GB 4806.16-2025). This revision updates the 2016 version of the standard and will come into effect on September 2, 2026. The 2025 version narrows the scope of application specifically to silicone rubber materials and articles for food contact and introduces new indicators related to volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
