China adds VOC emission limit to GB regulating hazardous substances of furniture

On June 25, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation of China released a mandatory national standard called “Limit of hazardous substances of furniture” (GB 18584-2024), which is a consolidation of “Indoor decorating and refurbishing materials -Limit of hazardous substances of wood-based furniture” (GB 18584-2001) and “Limit of hazardous substances of plastic furniture” (GB 28481-2012). The new standard will come into force on July 1, 2025.

Compared to GB 18584-2001 and 28481-2012, the main changes of this new national standard are as follows.
