China’s industry association releases standards for carbon footprint calculation of home appliances

On Dec. 29, 2023, the China Household Electrical Appliances Association published a general standard and two product-specific standards for the carbon footprint calculation of home appliances:

  • Guidelines for Carbon Footprint Accounting of Household Electrical Appliances (T/CHEAA 0027—2023)
  • Specific Rules for Carbon Footprint Accounting of Household Electrical Appliances—Household Refrigerators (T/CHEAA 0028—2023)
  • Specific Rules for Carbon Footprint Accounting of Household Electrical Appliances—Room Air Conditioners (T/CHEAA 0029—2023)

The standards came into effect Jan. 1, 2024. These are carbon footprint calculation guidelines for home appliances. The three standards set out requirements for carbon footprint measurement and reporting for home appliances in general, refrigerators and room air conditioners, respectively, based on product lifecycle.
