China’s Shanghai issues revised regulations on safety management of hazardous chemicals

On June 15, 2023, the government of Shanghai, China, published on its website revised municipal regulations on the safety management of hazardous chemicals, which came into effect immediately.

The revised regulations include provisions on local lists of regulated chemicals, as well as bans, restrictions and other specific regulations on various chemicals in various areas. The main changes in this revision are new provisions on water transportation ban in certain areas based on the Yangtze River Protection Law1, and new regulations on chemicals based on local lists of regulated chemicals. Details of the new provisions are given below.
