Vietnam to revise energy conservation standards for production of beverage products and plastic products

On August 13, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam published and solicited public comments on two draft regulations: 1) Draft Circular on Regulations for Specific Energy Consumption in Beer and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Production through to 2030 and 2) Draft Circular on Regulations for Specific Energy Consumption in Plastic Products Manufacturing through to 2030. The two draft circulars will replace the existing legislation: Circular No. 19/2016/TT-BCT on Beverage Products, enacted on September 14, 2016, and Circular No. 38/2016/TT-BCT on Plastic Products, enacted on December 28, 2016.

For the purposes of these two Circulars, “Specific Energy Consumption (SEC)” is defined as the maximum total amount of energy consumed to produce one unit weight of a particular product.
