Taiwan updates high-efficiency PV module specifications

Taiwan’s Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs on January 7, 2021 announced an update to the PV Taiwan Plus Technical Specification, which became effective immediately. It sets out the requirements for the safety, power generation function, reliability, carbon footprint, etc. of PV (photovoltaic) modules. Here are the changes introduced in the updated specification:

Update to required output performance of PV modules

Required output performance of PV modules for 2022 onward for “crystalline silicon cells”, “crystalline silicon cells (M10 cells)” and “thin film cells” are newly specified in Section 5. Below is an excerpt of Table 1 “Required output performance of crystalline silicon PV modules” from the specification:

Module type Maximum output of a module (Wp) Module size
2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
60-cell 6-inch monocrystalline PV module 310 320 330 340 350 ≤ 1.8 m × 1.15 m
60-cell 6-inch polycrystalline PV module 295 305 315 325 335 ≤ 1.8 m × 1.15 m
72-cell 6-inch monocrystalline PV module 374 380 395 405 415 ≤ 2.2 m × 1.15 m
72-cell 6-inch polycrystalline PV module 354 360 375 385 395 ≤ 2.2 m × 1.15 m

New requirements for the safety and performance of solar cells

The following provision has been added to Section 8:

Solar cells used in crystalline silicon PV modules must satisfy the requirements of the TAIWAN Solar Cell Technical Specification (*).

Note: “Verification documents” in Section 1, Paragraph 3 of this specification means all the following documents:

        1. Model test report
        2. Factory inspection report, quality certificate of the factory’s quality management system, or other documentation approved by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
        3. Technical documentation for the product provided by the cell manufacturer.
