China tightens limitation standards on harmful substances in musical instruments

On December 29, 2022, the National Standardization Administration of China released the mandatory national standard “Limitations on Harmful Substances in Musical Instruments” (GB 28489-2022). Compared to the draft submitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2021, this standard is a more stringent regulation. It is a revision of the sole national standard in China, “Limitations on Harmful Substances in Musical Instruments” (GB/T 28489-2012), which stipulates regulations for usage of harmful substances in musical instruments.
