China’s Guangdong province announces provincial program for methane emission control

On Aug. 22, 2024, the Department of Ecology and Environment and seven other government departments of Guangdong province, China announced a Provincial Program for Methane Emission Control. This program aims to ensure active response to climate change and improve methane emission control. It is based on the Methane Emission Control Action Plan1 issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other central government departments, and takes into account the conditions of the province.

The program includes 12 key plans, such as the coordinated control of pollutants and methane, which intends to increase the coordinated control of VOCs and methane and appropriately dispose of methane-containing flammable gases from industrial processes.
