China publishes mandatory standards that set MEPS for cold stores, transformers

On April 29, 2024, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation published the following mandatory national standards:

  • Minimum Allowable of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Cold Store (Box) and Refrigerant Compressor Condensing Unit (GB 44015-2024)
  • Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and the Energy Efficiency Grades for Power Transformers (GB 20052-2024)

Both standards will come into effect Feb. 1, 2025.

The first standard (GB 44015-2024) was planned to be a recommended (non-compulsory) standard when its draft was released in 2023, but the final version has been made a mandatory standard, requiring manufacturers to meet the minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for cold stores and refrigeration compressor units. The final version also includes other changes. The other standard (GB 20052-2024) remains mostly the same as its 2023 draft.
