Chinese industrial association publishes draft standard for recycled plastics used in home appliances

On May 8, 2024, the China Household Electrical Appliances Association published a draft of an association standard called the Technical Specifications of Recycled Plastics for the Household Electrical Appliances. The association is seeking comments on the draft through June 8, 2024.

The standard wouldn’t be mandatory, but would encourage home appliance manufacturers to use recycled plastics appropriately in accordance with the standard.

The draft standard sets out requirements for the use of recycled plastics in home appliances (requirements for material sources, restricted substances and performance), how to calculate the proportions of recycled plastics, quality control requirements and labeling requirements. Appendix B of the draft sets out target proportions for post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in home appliances.
