China seeks comments on draft revision of its Product Quality Law

On Oct. 18, 2023, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation published on its website a draft revision of the Product Quality Law. The administration is seeking comments on the draft through Nov. 18, 2023.

The draft revised law consists of six chapters, namely General Provisions, Product Quality Obligations of Producers and Sellers, Product Quality Oversight, Quality Promotion and Quality Infrastructure, Legal Responsibilities and Supplementary Provisions.

The fourth chapter, “Quality Promotion and Quality Infrastructure”, is a new chapter introduced by the draft revision. This chapter encourages producers to improve product quality comprehensively using new technologies, materials, manufacturing processes, etc.
