China releases draft circular on measures for digital management of hazardous waste

On June 7, 2023, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment published a draft “Circular on Promoting the Standardized Environmental Management of Hazardous Waste”. The ministry accepted comments on the draft through June 18, 2023.

The draft circular shows plans regarding key duties, system reforms, supervision and support for the assessment of hazardous waste standardized environmental management that would be carried out by the ecology and environment departments of local governments, as well as plans for promoting hazardous waste management by businesses using digital means, such as video surveillance, electronic truck scales and electronic labels.
