Taiwan to expand the RoHS application scope to add adapters and plugs

On September 13, 2022, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), M.O.E.A of Taiwan announced the amendment of the “Inspection regulations for power distribution equipment subject to inspection”, and released the amendment draft for public comments. The comment period will last 60 days after the publication date of the draft. The amendment expands the application scope of adapters and plugs, and specifically the products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are newly added to the application scope. It should be noted that, the products of 8 categories listed in the amended Regulation are all subject to Taiwan RoHS regulations.

 

The expansion of application scope

The application scope of the following products is expanded as follows (amended contents are in bold).

  • Plugs and sockets used in wiring (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Adapters (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Power extension cords (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Detachable cord sets (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Nondetachable cord sets (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Cord sets (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Cable reels (Products with functions such as wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)
  • Wiring switches for household (Products with functions such as touch control, toggle (lever, rotary) structure control, wireless control, wired Internet control, timing control, voice control, motion sensing, light sensing, or calculation of electricity usage are included)

 

Scheduled enforcement date

Products added this time are expected to be inspected based on the specified inspection standards after January 1, 2025.
