South Korea announces draft amendment defining exemptions ahead of the expansion of RoHS and EPR scopes

On October 24, 2025, South Korean Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE) (formerly the Ministry of Environment [MOE]) announced a draft amendment to the Electrical and Electronic Products Excluded from the Restrictions on the Use of Hazardous Substances (hereinafter "the amendment") (MCEE Notice No. 2025-20). The amendment aims to add certain products and equipment that are difficult to manage under the current RoHS (mandatory restriction of hazardous substances) and EPR (extended producer responsibility) frameworks to the exemption list in advance of the upcoming expansion of both systems to cover all electrical and electronic products.
