Hong Kong to Enforce New Energy Efficiency Grading Standards for Three Household Appliances

On Sept. 26, 2025, Hong Kong’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) announced that it will fully implement new energy efficiency grading standards for refrigerating appliances, washing machines, and storage-type electric water heaters under the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (MEELS), effective Sept. 30, 2025. The new standards raise the energy efficiency requirements by 30%.
