China China releases proposed revision of national standard for energy efficiency of fans, adding DC fans to its list

On August 26, 2020, China’s Standardization Administration released a proposed revision (a draft for opinion gathering) of the national standard, Minimum Energy Performance Standard and Energy Efficiency Grades for Electric Fans, with changes including the addition of direct current (DC) fans. Opinions will be received until October 23, 2020. Here is a summary of the draft.

Scope (the altered part is underlined)

After the revision Before the revision
Table motor fans, box fans, wall fans, floor fans, living room fans and ceiling fans with a single-phase rated voltage of less than 250 V, or less than 480 V for other rated voltages Table AC motor fans, box fans, wall fans, floor fans, living room fans and ceiling fans with a single-phase rated voltage of less than 250 V, or less than 480 V for other rated voltages

The proposed amendment includes DC fans in response to the recent surge in their sales in China.
