China publishes circular on energy efficiency levels of key energy-using products

On Nov. 10, 2022, China’s National Development and Reform Commission issued a circular on energy efficiency levels of 20 types of key energy-using products and equipment, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and lighting equipment. These products will be classified into three energy efficiency levels, namely “advanced level”, “energy-saving level” and “access level”, which refers to access to the market. The circular sets out criteria and “management measures” for products at each energy efficiency level.

There are some changes from the draft version issued July 21, 2022, such as the addition of energy efficiency level criteria for ventilators as well as a wider range of motors covered by the circular. The circular will come into effect Jan. 1, 2023.
