Port of Shanghai announces new requirements for advance notification of containers of imported hazardous chemicals

On June 20, 2022, Shanghai International Port Group, the operator of the Port of Shanghai, announced the enhancement of safety measures for containers of hazardous chemicals. More specifically, the port operator introduced interim requirements for containers of hazardous chemicals imported into China that are listed on China’s List of Hazardous Chemicals 2015 but are not subject to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. These requirements include submitting a hazard classification assessment report of hazardous chemicals and other required documents to the wharf by email at least 24 hours before the vessel arrives at the port, starting from July 1, 2022.
