China releases national standards defining terminology used in chemical tests for environmental risk management

On June 6, 2022, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment released national ecological and environmental standards called “Chemical substances environmental management—Terminology for testing of chemical substances” (HJ 1257-2022), which came into effect on June 15, 2022. The standards deal with and aim to standardize the terminology used in chemical tests conducted for environmental risk management. The test terminology is organized into five categories, namely “generic terms”, “aquatic toxicity test”, “terrestrial toxicity test”, “degradation test” and “accumulation test”.
