On April 27, the Department of Ecology and Environment of southern China’s Guangdong province announced a program for soil and groundwater contamination control in the province for the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The program sets specific targets, including a target for the safe use rate of contaminated land. It implements stricter oversight of construction projects involving toxic or hazardous substances and imposes stricter regulations on the heavy metal industry as well as on key companies for contamination control.
