China China excludes 6 solid waste types from hazardous waste designation

On December 2, to properly enforce the Solid Waste Environmental Pollution Control Law, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment released a list of six solid waste types that are excluded from hazardous waste designation in accordance with the Hazardous Waste Oversight and Utilization Capability Enhancement Reform Program. This list will be updated as necessary.

The table below lists the excluded solid waste types.

3 Waste generated from the granulation of seven types of plastics Synthetic materials Waste generated from the granulation of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)
4 Waste from hot dip galvanizing Metal surface treatment and heat treatment Waste generated in the hot dip galvanizing process that uses no lead
5 Sludge generated in aluminum electrode foil manufacturing Metal surface treatment and heat treatment Sludge generated from non-borate solutions used for conversion coating in the manufacturing of aluminum foil for electrolytic capacitors
6 Cutting dust generated in wind turbine blade manufacturing Wind-powered equipment Cutting dust of materials used in wind turbine blade manufacturing
