China China released draft standard on MEPS and energy efficiency grades for fluorescent lamps

On July 28, 2021, the “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for fluorescent lamps for general lighting service” (draft for comments), which was integrated and revised by the China National Energy Standard and Management Standardization Technical Committee, was released and started collecting comments. The deadline for submitting comments is October 1, 2021.

The standard is a revised standard that integrates five standards, they are GB 19044-2013 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and the energy efficiency grades of self-ballasted fluorescent lamps for general lighting service”, GB 19043-2013 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and the energy efficiency grades of double-capped fluorescent lamps for general lighting service,GB 19415-2013 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and evaluating values of energy conservation for single-capped fluorescent lamps”, GB 29144-2012 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and the energy efficiency grades for self-ballasted electrodeless fluorescent lamps with general”, GB 29142-2012 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for single-capped electrodeless fluorescent lamps”. The main revised contents are as follows.

  • Integration of terms and definitions: The luminous efficacy and energy efficiency of the above five types of fluorescent lamps were integrated.
  • Deletion of evaluating value of energy conservation: The initial luminous efficacy and evaluating values of energy conservation were deleted.
  • Changes of technical requirements: Technical requirements for evaluating value of energy conservation were deleted, at the same time, technical requirements for color rendering index were added.

Application scope
The standard is applicable to the energy efficiency grade, minimum allowable value of energy efficiency and test methods of self-ballasted fluorescent lamps, double-capped fluorescent lamps, single-capped fluorescent lamps, self-ballasted electrodeless fluorescent lamps and single-capped electrodeless fluorescent lamps.

Energy efficiency grade
The energy efficiency for fluorescent lamps is divided into 3 grades, and Grade 1 is the highest energy efficiency grade.

Minimum allowable value of energy efficiency
The Grade 3 in the energy efficiency grade table of each type of fluorescent lamp indicates the minimum allowable value of energy efficiency.

Color rendering index
Generally, the color rendering index Ra of fluorescent lamps should not be lower than 80. The difference between the measured value of the initial color rendering index and the rated value should not be greater than 3.
