China’s Shandong province issues regulations on Yellow River protection, effective July 1, 2024

The Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress of Shandong province, China, adopted regulations on Yellow River protection at its eighth session, and published it March 27, 2024. These regulations will come into effect July 1, 2024.

The regulations are the first provincial-level implementation of China’s Yellow River Protection Law1 that should play an important role in ecological protection, the conservation and concentrated use of water, and high-quality development in the Yellow River basin.

 

The regulations consist of 90 articles in the following chapters:

  3. Ecological Protection and Restoration
  4. Conservation and Concentrated Use of Water
  5. Flood Control and Construction Safety
  6. Pollution Control
  7. High-quality Development
  8. Protection of the Culture of the Yellow River
  9. Guaranteeing Measures and Oversight
  10. Legal Responsibility
  11. Supplementary Provisions
