China announces program for protection, utilization of coasts of major lake, rivers in Taihu (Lake Tai) Basin

In January 2024, China’s Ministry of Water Resources announced a program for the protection and utilization of the coasts of the major lake and rivers in the Taihu (Lake Tai) Basin. It serves as important guidelines for the protection, development, utilization and management of the coasts for the coming years.

The program manages the coasts of Lake Tai, Wangyu River, Taipu River and Xinmeng River by dividing the coasts into costal protection sections, preservation sections, controlled utilization sections and development sections.
