Malaysia Nears Final Stage of EPR Regulation for Packaging Materials Including Plastics

Malaysia’s state-run media reported on August 29, 2025, that authorities are in the final stage of establishing an extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulation of various packaging materials, including plastics. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), which oversees solid waste management, announced that the regulation will begin as a voluntary phase in 2026 and become mandatory by 2030.
