Malaysia Publishes Industrial Standard on ESG Reporting Rules

On February 9, 2024, a Malaysian industrial standard, “SIRIM 56:2024 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) - Reporting" was published. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting is a means for companies to disclose their performance and practices in areas related to sustainability and corporate responsibility, specifically providing information on the organization's impact on the environment, its responsiveness to employees and the community, and the quality of its governance. ESG reporting is used to demonstrate an organization's commitment to sustainability and accountability to all stakeholders, as well as regulatory compliance. While the SIRIM standard itself is voluntary, it will become a mandatory system when cited in laws and regulations.
