Taiwan designates 2 products subject to mandatory QR code for Commodity Inspection Mark

On March 15 and 19, 2022, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic and Affairs of Taiwan released two public notices to designate instantaneous electric water heaters and children’s raincoats as products which shall include a QR code for Commodity Inspection Mark. The notice for instantaneous electric water heaters will become effective from October 1, 2022, while the notice for children’s raincoats will become effective from September 15, 2022. These notices stipulate that the designated code for Commodity Inspection Mark of regulated products shall include a QR code and the QR code shall be applied to the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Ministry of Economic and Affairs of Taiwan before a verification registration certificate or a type approval certificate is issued. However, regarding the products that have obtained certificates before the above-mentioned effective dates, QR codes shall be applied to BSMI before shipping, importing or applying for verification registration. It is just noticed that instantaneous electric water heaters are also subject to the Taiwanese version of RoHS regulation.

In the documents that the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Ministry of Economic and Affairs of Taiwan submitted to WTO members dated March 15, 2022, regarding the 2 regulated products that shall include a QR code some details are described in the table below.

Effective date

As mentioned above, the QR code shall be newly included in the Commodity Inspection Mark for instantaneous electric water heater from October 1, 2022, and for children’s raincoats from September 15, 2022.
