*Taiwan Taiwan announced 2022 annual inspection plan for MEPS regulations

Taiwan’s Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced the 2022 annual inspection plan for products of MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standard), Energy Label program and Energy Efficiency Rating Labeling. The main contents of the plan are as follows

Inspection plan for products subject to MEPS for 2022 year

According to Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, the following inspections of lighting products are planned for the 2022year. The above inspections will be conducted on sample products purchased in the market. The details of the above plan are shown in the table below.

Items to be inspected Inspection Items
Labeling Energy efficiency
fluorescent lamp Label luminous efficacy on the body or smallest packaging. The measured luminous efficacy value is 95% or more of the product’s labeled value, satisfying the luminous efficacy standard value.
Compact fluorescent lamp Label rated power and luminous efficacy on minimum packaging. The actual measured value of luminous efficacy is equal to or greater than the standard value and equal to or greater than 95% of the product labeled value.
Built-in fluorescent lamp in the stabilizer Label luminous efficacy on the body or smallest packaging.

Energy efficiency rating label affixed to the smallest package or labeled inside the package.

The actual measured value of luminous efficacy is equal to or greater than the standard value and equal to or greater than 95% of the product labeled value.

The luminous efficacy is greater than or equal to 95% of labeled value.

Built-in LED lamp in the stabilizer (Take effect on January 1, 2021 Label luminous efficacy on the body or smallest packaging.

The actual measured value of luminous efficacy is more than 90% of the labeled value and more than MEPS value.
Straight Tube Type LED Fluorescent Lamp

(Take effect on January 1, 2022)

Label rated power consumption, rated luminous flux, and rated luminous efficacy on the body or smallest packaging. Power consumption: Initial value of actual measured power consumption is 90% to 110% of rated value.

Luminous flux: Initial value of actual measured luminous flux is % 90to120 % of rated value.

Luminous efficacy: The measured luminous efficacy value is 95% or more of the labeled value and exceeds the standard value.

Report on sales of designated products in the previous year

For designated products such as refrigerators, the sales amount for the previous year must be reported to the Ministry of Economic Affairs by the end of each February. Failure to comply with the above regulations will require correction within the time frame. Failure to rectify the situation will result in a fine of not less than NT$30,000 (about 1000dollars) and not more than NT$150,000(about 5400dollars).

The following products are included in the designated products.

Ductless air conditioners, electric refrigerators, dehumidifiers, built-in fluorescent lamp in the stabilizer, gas heaters, gas table stoves, electric kettles, hot water storage type electric water heaters, open-drinking machines, drinking machine water, electric rice cooker
