Taiwan announces planned update to water efficiency label requirements for some water-using products

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs on February 8, 2021 announced a planned update to the Mandatory Requirements of Water Efficiency Labeling Products for Water Use Equipment, Sanitary Ware or Other Equipment, which list products that require the water efficiency label. Public comments will be accepted for 60 days after the announcement.

Outline of the planned update

Item added to the list of water efficiency label requiring products: sensor faucets

Planned effective date: July 1, 2022

The planned update states the following:

    • When listed products are sold in Taiwan, the water efficiency label must be obtained in accordance with the Regulations for the Management of Water Efficiency Label.
    • Violators of this requirement are imposed a fine of 40,000 to 200,000 New Taiwan dollars (approximately 152,000 to 760,000 yen) according to the Water Supply Act and ordered to comply with the requirement within a specified period. If the violators fail to comply within the period, they are punished according to the number of violations.
